Piracy is a big problem that costs a lot to the society and its citizens.
The only thing pirates are looking for is your money, my money, our money. To reach their goal, they commit the worst crimes such as assaulting, kidnapping, rapping and even killing. Everyone is touched by modern-day piracy. Even a normal citizen who never takes a boat in his life is affected, because he pays taxes that go to secure boats and passengers in it. Piracy attack is a big problem that happens nearly every week.

Every year, Canada’s government spends 10 millions dollars from her citizen’s taxes to employ a private security firms on cCanadian ships. In fact, around 300 different companies are offering maritime security. Because abpprouximately 90 percent of trade is shipped by sea, ma lot ofny companies lose their products and include an additional tax on their product for the preventiong fromf piracy and taking the risk of facing this kind of attack. Every time that pirates attack, they take a ransom of about 2two million dollars. This affects us as a costumer since trade cost jumps tof US$18$ billion.

Many human lives are lost during acts of piracy. In fact, "In the first nine months of 2014, pirates killed three crew members." Even if the passengers in the ship aren’t killed, they spassend their whole life hypnotized by this horrible event. Actually, pirates have AK-47s and rocket grenade launchers. This allows them to kill if they feel threatened. And that is whant they do, if they know that they can’t get money from their captive/s. Or, they can diversify their activities by kidonapping human traffics.

Piracy doesn’impacts onally affecsorts of other people. It has negative consequences on pirates, because hundreds of these thieves die in the sea. Also, countries that are surrounded by piracy attacks hadve seen a droopping of their exportation of fish (around 23,8 percent less), because they don’t have total control on their water.

All the governments and companies are trying to protect their ships by hiring new and modern security firms. They can’not solve this huge problem by simply defending themselves. They have to try to solve it by removing the true cause twhatich areis the huge number ousf famines and the high rate of unemployment in countries, such as Somalia, from whomere pirates are known to have originated.
