Garowe is the capital city of the Nugaal region of Somalia, and the administrative capital of the autonomous Puntland state in northeastern Somalia.
Garowe's local government administration is currently led by Hassan Mohamed Isse, whicho was nominated by the city local council on August 2015 as the city mayor. The local city council consists of 27 Councilors, 23 men and 4 women. The councilors were nominated by the traditional clan leaders of the city.
The local government covers the needs of 190,000 residents in the city with the help of the UN Joint Program on Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery (JPLG).
