I stare in her eyes while she lays lifeless before mine,
Swallowing my guilt and pain
Hoping for a response of any kind. sShe doesn't move or even shed a tear ,
So I kiss her forehead and whisper, "come back" in her ear.
As nurses and doctors come to pronounce her gone,
This could not be, I should've been the one.
Covered in my confusion, hurt and tears.,
Wishing I could rewind these last two years.
As they take my hand and walk me to the door
I look back and tell her, "pain no more ."
