I have decided to write an Iinterview, of two linguistic experts, to talk on the role of the English language as a lingua franca in the extinction of other indigenous languages. The written task will be based on ‘History and evolution of the language’ from Part 1 of the course. How the disappearing and revival of languages are taking place with respect to the spread of English as the lingua franca, and the eaffect that the English language has had on the evolution of creoles and pidgins in different areas of the world.
In the task, I will be taking the role of an Iinterviewer. The interviewees will be two linguists. One will give his analysis and opinions of English in the extinction of other languages, and the reasons for hims gartivingcle the ntitle ofd, ‘Language Killer’ in the article, that he has published in the newspaper. The other linguistic expert will give contradicting views and will criticize the arguments presented by the first linguistic expert. He will present his analysis in favour of English as the lingua franca and the need of a global language rather than indigenous local languages. The interview would be the best way to capture differenthe views and comments pertaining to language loss and the spread of English.
The purpose of the task is to bring the two arguments about the spread of English language and the extinction of themany languages together. The target audience will be the students and other linguists interested in both language losspread and sprelanguadge loss.
