I fully support the application of Lincon Onório Vidal for admission to the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship atin Canada. I came to know Lincon when he was a student forin thea course I taught; Computer Programming I, taught by me. The course was of comprised fundamental concepts of algorithms development and practice in programming with Python language. Lincon proved to be highly intelligent, and demonstrated great initiative.
About a year ago, Lincon started developing an undergraduate scientific initiation project, supervised by me, on the development of meta-heuristics for real parameter optimization. In his current project, we implemented a variant of the Clonal Selection Algorithm for optimization, and the results show the algorithm developed has a good performance, when compared with state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms or the original algorithm. This project is already in writing toand will be submitted to Information Science Journal soon. The results were showedn recently in EMMSB, and Lincon received an honorable mention for his poster presentation. In thise period we have been working together, Lincon has already provedn to be highly productive and creative, programming efficiently, and is very motivated to improve his research skills.
I have supervised about ten other scientific initiation students at the same level. I would rank Lincon in the top 5% of students that I have supervised, in respect of his productivity and programming skills. He is a perfect match for the suggested research projects. I strongly support Lincon's application without any restrictions, and hope for a successful project.
