Proposed Research Topic: Organizational Processes, Behavioural Analysis & Diagnosis, and Recommendations for Oyaco Products Inc.
I have chosen Option 1 (Analysis of an Organization) as my course project. I currently work for Oyaco Products Inc.
, as a Full Cycle Accountant and. I will be analyzing the processes used by Oyaco, conduct a behavioural analysis & diagnosis, and make recommendations about how the process cshould be designed or and modified to improve it's effectiveness.
Company Background: Oyaco Products Inc. is a
Canadian distributor of safe and innovative, safe and  high quality, baby, maternity and children’s products in Canada. It is one of the first companies to introduce baby sleeping bags to Canadian parents. Oyaco was officially christened in 2004. (tThe name comes from the meaning of two Japanese words, “oya” meaning “parent”, and a modified version of the word “ko” which translates to “child”. (1) It is one of the largest distributors of infant and baby products in Canada. With 26 products lines and over 750 SKU’s, shipping from two warehouses, the company’s products can be found in over 600 retail outlets likesuch as Amazon, Indigo, Bed Bath and Beyond, Costco, Toys R US, Walmart, and Canadian Tire, amongst other retailers  across Canada.(2) Some of the most famous Oyaco product lines are Grobags Gro clocks, Bumbo products, Keekaroo products, Pura bottles, Pearhead and Trunki.
Process
es/ Issues to be studied: In this project, I will be outlining the following processes used by Oyaco and the issues faced with these processes.
1. Oyaco’s organizational Structure (Communication Process, Decision Making Process and Leadership Process)
2. Organizational Culture (Organizational Culture Defined, its effects, Influencing Change – {anticipating socialization, accommodation and role of management}, Socialization – (Mentoring & Cultural Diversity)
3. Individual Differences and Work Behaviour (Abilities and Skills, Personality and Attitudes)
4. Motivation (Systems in place and its effectiveness)
5. Job Design, work and Motivation (Job Design and Quality of work life, Job performance outcomes (personal behaviour outcomes, intrinsic and extrinsic outcomes)
6. Evaluation, Feedback and Rewards (Forms of Evaluation, Purpose of Evaluation Feedback, Improving Evaluations)
7. Communication Process in the Organization (How communication works, upward and downward communication)
Issues with OYACO Processes: Communication problems, Interpersonal conflicts, Low motivation and job satisfaction, Low employee performance, Performance Appraisal Issues and Poor job fit.
Methods of Obtaining Information: Most of the information needed for this project is readily available in the company; I will also interview my coworkers informally
, as often as is needed to clarify the issues at work. I will obtain other important information from my manager.
