1. What three main problems does Michael Moore examine in his film “SICKO”?
• The three main problems Michael Moore examines in his film are:
1) American Health Care System
2) Health Insurance
3) Pharmaceutical Industry/Profiling counties with universal health care.
2. Whom or what does he thisay is to blame for each problem he uncovers?
• The first problem Michael Moore goes into debitail about was “American Health Care System”. I believe this was the first problem, because the film talked a lot about how many lof t ofhe characters in his film who currently work for the health care system, and some characters who used to work inside the health care system who, either turned down applicants for insurance, and alsor denied applicants' claims. This was important because a lot of insurance company employees try not to build relationships with many different people that call in for health care, because they don’t know the possible outcome of that individual receiving health care or not. A young lady in the movie who was an insurance company employee started crying in terms abofut the proper protocol in taking whenfor talking to people that called in wanting to receive health care.
• Michael Moore blamed “Health Insurance” for this problem, which was one of three problems that he examined in his film. I believe Health Insurance was blamed because the film first started off with an American man who loses the ends of two of his fingers in an accident. He did not, of course, have health insurance. So he had to choose between having his middle finger being reattached for over fiftheen thousand dollars, or his ring finger for the less than fifteen thousand dollars. The man chooses his ring finger, of course, because it was all he could afford. This example explains how this problem is blamed on “Health Insurance,” because if he did have health insurance, the insurance company would have paid far less than however much it costs for him to get his two fingers reattached. If the American man had any form of health insurance, the insurers would have been able to negotiate rates with the hospitals that individuals can’t compromisget. With that being said, that would have helped him save far more money. aAlso it, he would have also had not only one finger reattached, but both fingers reattached.
• The final problem I believe was an important, was “Pharmaceutical Industry/Profiling counties with universal health care”. This was important because this Mr. Moore examined how many other countries such as France, Cuba, and Britain. Aare able to receive care at no cost. Whichat was Moore was shocked by? The film displayed how people from those different countries I listed had not only free health care, but hadlso different treatment such as:
1) There’s no waiting in line
2) Choose your own doctor
And in France how, there is an on call doctor available to them in the middle of the night, as well as a doctor who makes house calls as well in the middle of the night, and also the doctor will visit the patients house if needed..
