This film has a sense of irony to it. It is a film about the 'behind the scenes' of Hollywood, and what happens when the cameras are not recording. The writer plays on this, and makes the characters say twhat the writer wants, and that thery are the ones, who make the actor behave in a certain way, and makes hints, and jokes, about their power, in clever ways. One was when Joe was speaking, and he claiminged that writers makde him say that - they told him to say it in that way. It shows how Hollywood is just a stage, and uswe, as the viewers, will never really have that sense of what's beyond thate camera.
