Soccer is the most prominent sport worldwide, and it’s still growing faster than any other team sport in the United States (Christensen 348). ConverselyHowever, for some players, it can be quite a toxic relationship, as the rate of soccer concussions havehas become equivalentcomparable to concussions in other contact sports-includingsports – including football (Al-Kishmiri and Delaney 1). As stated by the Mayo Clinic, “A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that affects your brain function” (Concussion 1). This issue should be taken seriously because the brain is an integral part of your body. There are plenty of activities where one can flourish with an injured ankle, but the only activity not requiring the brain is death. According to a study by Damaris Christensen, a popular contributor to Science News, in a memory test requiring participants to copy a figure from memory, “45% of professional soccer players had moderately to significantly impaired scores” (349) compared to national standards. The number of concussions sustained in girl’sgirls' soccer is alarming because of the many effects of brain injuries, which may include death; however, concussions can be prevented by observing the rules of soccer and wearing concussionsconcussion bands; furthermore, new brain scans need to be implemented immediately by a physician.
