Manuel is an 11-year-old Hispanic-American boy who has been staying at Saint John’s Center forCenter's Real Change programProgram for the last one and a half years with his mother and four siblings after constantly experiencing to domestic violence and homelesshomelessness.
Setting
Upon entering the Saint John’s program, Manuel has been receiving outpatient therapy for mild depressive symptoms, dysfunctional attitude, and poor interpersonal relationships. Manuel usually has a gloomy outlook on life with an underlying sense of personal inadequacy.
Reason for Referral
Manuel and his family were transitioned into this mental health treatment shelter after a referral from child protection services.
Living Situation
Currently, Manuel and his family isare enrolled in the family transitional housing program at Saint John’s center.
Economic and Socio-cultural
Manuel’s mother Margaret reports to have relied on public assistance for a long time, and she struggles to keep a job due to her depression and substance abuse issues. The family has been struggling with homelessness throughout their life. The family also reports of no social support network and their extended family lives in Mexico. Although the family is away from their extended family, the family believes in collectivist norms.
