Although many people believe that students should be able to talk freely and share their ideas out loud during class, unnecessary talking among them can cause interruptions that distract others from their learning environment (The Value of Silence in Schools). These distractions lower the quality of work of all the students and, therefore, it should be limited. Unnecessary talking can interrupt learning, resulting in wasting lots of class time.
First, unnecessary talking can distract not only the person who is interrupting, but also everyone else in the classroom who is willing to learn. Students lose their focus and concentration if they are distracted by the conversations of fellow peers, and it can deeply affect their learning. They should be fully concentrated and focused on the work that needs to be done, rather than communicating needlessly with each other. Interruptions waste a lot of precious class time when there is work to be done. Scientific research shows that a distraction in the classroom that lasts only a minute long can take up to 23 minutes for a student to fully recover from it (How Bad, Really, Are Interruptions?). If students are focused and properly doing their work, it can definitely benefit others and their future grades.
