I believe Sarah Lawrence is the college that will cultivate my resiliency, passion, and daringcourage. I thrive in environments with connections and opportunities. The personalized teaching methods of Waynflete and Spring Ridge Academy have shown me what it means to blossom in my educational journey. With the small and interactive classes at Sarah Lawrence, I know that I will have chances both to contribute to and learn from my peers. I believe that the bonds I make will create opportunities for my future. I believe Sarah Lawrence will support me in becoming a successful and influential member of society. I expect that Sarah Lawrence will foster a feeling of home, promoting authentic self-expressions through exploration and open-mindedness.
In my home of New England, the diversity of sexual preference in many places, such as Maine, is not widely discussed. It’s not that being a part of the LGBTQ+ community is frowned upon, but people simply do not talk about it. Since I have come out to my friends and family as a lesbian, it has been extremely difficult for me to find a community of people who show the same inclusivity to me that they would show to those who identify as heterosexual. I believe at Sarah Lawrence I will find the inclusivity that has been lacking in my community of Maine. I will contribute to the larger feeling of acceptance on campus by joining groups such as the LGBTQIA Space on campus whose goal is to cultivate a tightly knit community that helps strengthen the inclusivity and diversity on campus.
